Potting Soil with Rice Hulls

KKO Premium Compost, peat, aged bark fines, parboiled rice hulls and lime.

Ready to use for indoor and outdoor pots, planters and other general container plantings. Use a container with drainage holes.

Add some mix to the bottom, set the plant at the same depth it was growing before, fill around the root ball and press lightly. Water thoroughly after planting and let excess water drain.

Each bag contains 1 cubic foot, or about 7.5 gallons of soil volume.

If your containers are labeled by gallons, add their total gallon capacity and divide by 7.5 to estimate bags needed. Round up if filling containers from empty.

A transplanted root ball takes up some space, so the actual amount needed may be less.

A good choice for indoor herbs and loose-leaf lettuce. The rice hulls help keep the mix light and open around the roots.

Use a container with drainage holes and give indoor plants a bright window or grow light.

Right after planting: Water slowly and thoroughly until a little water drains from the bottom of the pot. Empty any water left in the saucer.

When to water again: Check the soil with your finger. Water when the top of the mix begins to feel dry. Lettuce and basil generally prefer more even moisture, while many Mediterranean herbs prefer to dry a little more between waterings.

For indoor herbs & lettuce: Use a container with drainage holes and place it in a bright window or under a grow light.

Over time: Rice hulls naturally break down, so the mix may settle somewhat as plants grow. That is normal.

As your plants grow, follow the care recommendations for the specific herbs, vegetables or flowers you are growing.
